During Winter and Spring 2019 semesters chemistry seniors Mason John and Mattia Di Niro worked to develop the following Calculated Interactive Learning Objects (CILO), seeking to provide a visual and dynamic representation of several important equations and model systems taught in our quantum chemistry  and chemical thermodynamics courses.  These interactive figures were made to resemble the illustrations in the book Physical Chemistry, A Molecular Approach, by McQuarrie and Simon.

At the bottom of this page you can download a compressed zip file containing all the CILOs. You may use them at your convenience. They are freely  provided as is, with no implicit or explicit warranty of any kind.  You will need Wolfram's CDF player (free software downloadable fr https://www.wolfram.com/player/Links to an external site.) to interact with the content.

The CILOs they made include:

  • Standing vs. traveling waves in 1 D
  • Standing vs. traveling waves in 2 D
  • Particle in a 3D box and energy level diagram
  • Particle in a 3D box with transitions between levels
  • Harmonic oscillator and energy level diagram
  • Anharmonic oscillator and energy level diagram
  • Anharmonic oscillator with transitions between levels
  • Deviations from Raoult's law
  • Pressure-composition diagram
  • Temperature-composition diagram
