Overview
Task: Study and work through the following math lesson AND complete the Math Gathering Activity prior to Gathering.
Last week you learned about multiplication and division. This week you will continue to learn more about division and how division and multiplication are related to percentages. You will also learn how to use Excel as a calculator.
Making a Connection: Division and Percentages
Imagine you want to buy something that is on sale for a certain percentage off the original price. How can you figure out how much it will cost now that it is on sale? This is just one of many applications for the material in this lesson. As you go through the lesson, think of other applications you have seen in your life.
Excel Exercise
Throughout this course, you will be completing assignments using Microsoft Excel. Before beginning your Math Lesson, take some time to learn or improve on your Excel skills. Complete the following activity:

Each week you will have a math gathering activity which you will discuss with your gathering. Here is the question for this week’s gathering.
Assume the following pie chart represents your spending over one month. The total income for the month is $1798.62. The “Not Used” category is money left over.

- Of all the monthly expenses, which one is the largest percentage of the total?
- What percentage of the month’s income is rent? (Round to the nearest tenth.)
