Overview

This week you were taught how to perform long division. We are blessed in this modern age to have calculators to do arithmetic for us, however, it is still important to know how to do division problems without a calculator. For this reason, we encourage you to practice doing division by hand this week. Doing division strengthens your multiplication skills and we highly recommend you memorize your multiplication facts at least up to 9x9. This will be a tremendous help to you when you study fractions.

Use these exercises to help you strengthen your division skills. You can do this by taking the exercises over and over again.

Instructions

  1. Complete this quiz before the due date.
    • You will receive immediate feedback on any questions you miss on this quiz with instructions for Math Lessons to go back and study when you don’t get the right answer on a question.
    • Be sure to take time to study those lessons before attempting the quiz again.
  2. You can take this as many times as you want with no penalty until the due date.
    Note the following:
    • The highest score of all your attempts will be your recorded grade.
    • If you take this quiz after the due date, you will get a late penalty. This will reduce your final grade on the quiz.
    • This quiz will close 7 days after the due date.
  3. Calculator Use
    • The first 5 questions in this quiz are meant to help you practice doing division by hand. Please do not use a calculator on them except to check your answers.
    • For questions 6 through the end of the quiz, you may use a calculator to help you.
    • This week you were taught how to use Excel as a calculator. We recommend using Excel as your calculator in order to practice entering information into a spreadsheet. If you are already comfortable with this, then you may use any standard calculator. Please do not ever use an equation solving calculator in this class.
