W06 Exercise: Academic Planning Interest Survey

Overview

In this activity, you have the opportunity to briefly explore your career interests and how they align with certificates offered from BYU-Idaho and serviced through BYU-Pathway Worldwide. Later in the PathwayConnect program, you will actually choose a certificate, but this week you will just take an Interest Survey, analyze the results, then come back into this quiz to report your findings. Your instructor will be available for any questions.

Instructions

1. Watch this video about Certificates and Degrees.

2. Visit BYU-Pathway Worldwide home page and sign in to your student portal by clicking Sign In in the upper right corner.
3. After signing in, click on the Academic Planning menu in the top navigation bar, and then select “Interest Survey.”
4. Take the survey.
5. After completing the survey, you will be taken to a page where you can review your results.
   • All of the results on this page (not just the top four) are all of introductory certificates. These are the certificates you may choose from to take beginning in semester 3 of PathwayConnect.
   • The top four are the most closely aligned with your survey responses. You can take the survey as many times as you want. This may change the top four for you.
6. Explore some certificates.
   • On any certificate, click View Details.
   • Click on the Description tab and read the outcomes of the certificate. Scroll down to see potential career fields and the education degree paths you could take using this certificate.
7. Read this special note. There are many certificates at BYU-Idaho online. They are organized based on their difficulty: Introductory, Intermediate, and Advanced. The Interest Survey used in this exercise only presents you with the Introductory certificates. This is because during your third semester in PathwayConnect, you will only be able to take an introductory certificate. Once you matriculate to BYU-Idaho online, you will finish that introductory certificate. In summary, not all certificates at BYU-Idaho online are introductory certificates. You must begin by taking an introductory certificate. Refer to the visual below.
   
8. Complete the quiz.
